James, I hope you've got a boot diskette handy? you probably need to FORMAT his disk :) Only kidding, but let your guru boss know it won't be easy. If you have a third party un-installer like Cleansweep, that could help, but short of that, it gets pretty tough. If you are brave, you could try editing the registry. I can't guarantee this will work, but I've had the same type of problem before, and have been able to fool the computer into thinking that it was not installed. WARNING/DISCLAIMER - I am NOT, repeat NOT recommending you do this. Under some circumstances, Microsoft will not support you if you have been fooling around in the registry. The opinions expressed are not necessarily those of myself OR my employer, All rights reserved, void where prohibited by law, shake before opening, batteries not included, shipping and handling extra. Ok, Ready? If NT, log on as systems administrator. start/run/regedit find the tree marked: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\IBM\Client Access and delete the entire tree. then find the tree marked: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\IBM\Client Access and delete that entire tree. then find the tree marked: HKEY_USERS and look for \SOFTWARE\IBM\Client Access under all subdirectories and delete those entire trees. Win95/98 may not have all of these. Try to install now. If it won't, reboot and try again. The registry is very fragile, you delete the wrong thing and you are hosed. If you aren't sure what you are doing in the registry, below is the help text to restore to the last good registry if you mess something up. -------------------------------------------------------------------- To restore the registry 1 Click Start, and then click Shut Down. 2 Click Restart the computer, and then click Yes. 3 When prompted, press the spacebar to invoke the Hardware Profile/Last Known Good menu, which will restore your registry to a stable state. 4 Follow the instructions on the screen. Note: Following this procedure will restore your registry to its state when you last successfully started your computer. -------------------------------------------------------------------- James J Lundy wrote: > > Has anyone a fix or ideas on this? > > PC had WIN98 CA installed and working with service pack SF45545. > > My guru boss deleted CA directory without uninstalling first. > > When I try to reinstall CA from source CD I get error message > saying that I must uninstall service pack SF45545. > > How can I uninstall somthing that is not there? > Where is service pack info hidden? +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
