::::We are new to both the AS/400 and Infinium worlds. Our IS department ::::consists of 4 employees. Management has requested input from IS concerning ::::the AS/400 to PC solution. Any information, especially about data security ::::risks, would be most helpful. I would STRONGLY suggest that you regularly copy files from your AS/400 to a PC Server (or even just a "shared" folder on a PC that is always running) and let the users do their reporting from there. The benefits are manifold: * AS/400 performance is not affected by the queries * You can implement security by selecting which records and fields to mirror * The data can be transformed and/or reorganized to make querying easier and/or faster. I just VERY recently wrote an NT "Service" that daily mirrors files from an AS/400 to an NT Server box. A "Service" is akin to an AS/400 Autostart job; it starts with the operating system and does NOT require any sign-on. I used TCP/IP and FTP for my transfers, but any transfer mechanism will work. Contact me if you want more info. You might do best to e-mail me privately (dschenck@aol.com OR DonS@SchenckTech.com), as I often overlook messages here only because of the volume of message).
