Jon,

As I believe I pointed out in my post, I was referring to V3R1M0. I stated that 
I thought this might have been changed, although I haven't written much RPG 
lately and am not certain. Perhaps it came across a bit more inflammatory than 
was intended. At V3R1M0 however, you most definitely could not specify the 
numeric storage format and use Like() on the same D-spec. This was (is?) a 
serious limitation that made it impossible to write a program in such as way as 
to achieve (compile time) data independence.
