It's true that there are a lot of colleges everywhere pushing anything but RPG and the AS/400 and a lot of the graduates don't even have to move. Maybe I'm wrong, I personally know of quite a few people, including myself, with over 10 years of experience in Midrange computers that are just chomping at the bit to do more RPG programming. I have been doing PC and network work for the last 6 months because that is what is in the area here. Personally, they drive me nuts and I'd love to have another RPG contract. All some of us are looking for is more work via Client Access or some other remote access setup from our homes with occasional travel to meeting, etc. The C, Unix, etc, crowd seems to have no trouble finding these telecommuting positions or contracts. Is it any wonder these are more enticing to the college grads? If anyone knows of such a position, let me in on the secret.
