Two comments:  First, I'd be interested in knowing what it was about VisualAge
for RPG that "drove you nuts" - private e-mail is fine if you don't want to go
into it here.

Second, why is VisualAge for Java not an option?  Just because JBuilder caused
you problems is no reason to think that VAJ would do the same.  You can
download the entry version from our website use www.software.ibm.com/ad/vajava
as a starting point.  You can also get the Professional version at about $70
retail at various stores.  For serious AS/400 work you'd want the Enterprise
edition which is a lot more expensive, but these would get you started and you
can use the AS/400 Toolkit with either.
