My guess is that it's a production bug and Hayes hasn't had enough
pressure to fix it....  But the 56kb is definately a NO NO...

btw, you DO realize that regular analog telco switched lines only transfer
data at about 32-37kb...:)   So, go ahead, buy a 56kb....:)  Where you get
your higher rates is via the firmware compression....not the modem speeds
as a function of flat data transfer rates...
