Sounds like you've got things covered from a requirements standpoint. As far
as paging and job scheduling software, here's my 2 cents:
**MBA**. I've used their paging software and found it to be very flexible
and easy to use. They don't use system state MI programs to 'make it work' (as
one larger vendor does) and are very responsive to their customers' concerns
for system security and integrity. Furthermore, they are the folks that write
the IBM Job Scheduler Licensed Program Product (a bare-bones version of which
is native on the AS/400), so if they do as well with that as they do with their
paging product you've got a great mix. Incidentally, they also write BRMS for
IBM..... so obviously IBM thinks something of their quality of work.

Subject: AS400 / Operations Automation

I have an eye on automating my night operations shift. For the past 8
years we have maintained 24-7 shifts but midnight to six is really just
sys monitoring stuff for major failures, batch jobs and tape drives. Can
anyone recommend any good research resources for this subject or maybe
just some general advice. I am assuming I need a good message
monitor/page system, either a tape library robot or maybe a 3590, and a
decent job scheduler. Am I leaving out any biggies? Appreciate all
input.
