I'm gettin' wild here, I think, but here goes:

1. ODBC client? No. BUT---

DRDA lets you specify something called an ARD (application request
driver) that is provided by a DBMS vendor and is installed on the 400. I
think there's something for SQL Server, not sure. Was an article in
News/400 a while back. Search their archives/CD for more. BTW, IBM Support
Line has not been at all helpful in directing me to resources in this area.
The 'not our responsibility' syndrome.

There's an SQL CLI (call level interface) that has function calls that
are identical to those of ODBC. These are documented for C but should be
usable in RPGLE, too, I think.

2. Uploading is no problem—FTP comes to mind, and there's a great FREE FTP
server available for NT (WAR-FTPD; dig around at <http://www.tucows.com> ot
<http://www.stroud.com> ). Then the 400 can control the transaction, if
desired.

3. Brute force: can the PC file be uploaded and then modified on the 400
and downloaded again?

4. Can you put NFS service on the NT box? Then you can mount the NT file
system as local to the 400's IFS. Kinda scary, though.
