Well, New Orleans is over....and some really good sessions!

As I recall, it's the Largest Expo to date and 2nd largest attendance.

LOTS of people recognizing and wearing their MIDRANGE-L pins...

George Farr's Java for the RPG pgmr session and handout gets good kudo's
from here....nice comparisons... Very heavy on the Java/Ecommerce/ILE
stuffs....lots of good handouts...speakers are realizing that good solid
code samples in handouts are really what's desired... Wish more speakers
had laser pens... Lots of sessions running out of handouts...and no there
wasn't that much snarfing going on....heck, you had to walk too damn
far...

Hopefully Anaheim will have some of the registration process streamlined
for the prereg'd folks...board members were shown a way for a
preregistered person to basically have to spend no more than 15 seconds on
the onsite process...would make that mess a bit more palatable...also
hopefully expo will open at reg time....not holding breath here, but it
may happen... Basically if you've prereg'd, you go through the checking
shoot, wand your card through the mag strip reader, get your goodie dujour
and hit the expo...without breaking stride....

Cyber cafe's and PC sites were usually busy with waiting lines....nice
touch there... Bookstore was a good touch. We've seen it here in DC with
other tech conferences....had a web conference here and a bookstore that
looked like someone had taken the computing section of Borders down to the
convention center so my guess is that it'll grow...

Goodies at the expo were hard to find. There were a few good t-shirts and
2-3 mugs, but the usual piles of executive pacifiers were nowhere to be
found....perhaps that's why people didn't return in droves Monday or
Tues... Also, I've been curious as to why they don't have goodies
awards for the expo...best t-shirt, best mug, best executive pacifier,
etc....(got a couple more in mind, but I'ld REALLY get some flame mail for
them...:)

Now on the the real important stuff.... Cafe DuMond had the usual good
munchies and coffees they're well known for....and there's few things like
drinking a cold one standing in front of Cats watching the zanies...
Weather for the week was just super...you couldn't have asked for
better...unless you wanted snow...:) ...

Look for more cyber lurkers on the M-L list as many more were recruited.

There will be no CDROM from this conference...so don't hold your breath.

Sorry I didn't have the chance for the nightly reports as before...just
too much going on and too tired when I got back to be more than my usual
marginally coherent...

Later on folks...

Don in DC metro...
