You can create an optional message queue called QSYSMSG in library QSYS. The system will direct important messages there, in addition to QSYSOPR. HOWEVER - I don't know if it considers the lonely cry of 'clean me' from the tape drive to be important enough to send to QSYSMSG. :-) (Check Chapter 8 "Working with messages" in the CL Programming book for messages sent to QSYSMSG). If the message isn't one of the ones listed to go to QSYSMSG, maybe you could change the message queue defined on the tape drived device description to name a different message queue. Also, would suggest you do NOT clean the tape drive every day, just when needed. If you use cleaning cartridges, they are slightly abrasive (to clean the heads) and overuse will cause premature wear of the tape heads. Most tape drives have an indicator light on the front that will also light to show when cleaning is necessary.
