Roger and others, You can have named devices with CA/400 V3R1M3 and TCP/IP on OS/400 V3R7 (printer sessions, also). See info APAR II10918 for the required PTFs. I'm testing it right now to get ready to deploy TCP/IP (we currently only connect via SNA) and I've discovered a few problems with printing and virtual device creation. Have you tried a printer session at V4R2 with good results? Do you have to set system value QAUTOVRT to greater then 0 to get device descriptions created (IBM told me I shouldn't have to turn this system value on)? Once you get a display device created, it works fine. Just printer devices have trouble printing correctly whether you use host print transform/customization object or not (get garbage, no rotation, etc.). BTW, I crashed TELNET when I tried to reuse a printer session created under SNA which had a message queue besides QSYSOPR. You can reuse display devices with no problems. Had to STRTCPSVR *TELNET to start TELNET back up. Gotta have V4R2 and the V3R1M3 client to do that. It does work there--I just got done playing with it. Note that the V3R1M3 client running on pre V4R2 releases DOES NOT provide the capability yet, but IBM has promised to PTF the device naming (and IP printing) back to V3R2 (original promise was by the second quarter I think). rp +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +--- +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
