We've seen a similar problem and it was caused by a defect in the PC BIOS. If you contact the BIOS supplier there may be a patch or upgrade. ---------- From: Taylor Enterprises[SMTP:taylor@interlog.com] Sent: Thursday, April 02, 1998 9:52 AM To: MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com Subject: CA-Win95 and problem with system date Hi, all We've already solved the problem, but I'm curious whether anyone has any insignt on what caused it. We have a small network of PCs using an AS/400 as a database server. The PCs are about evenly split between WFW 3.11 (running CA DOS-Enhanced and Rumba)and Win95 (CA Win 95 - V3R1M2, if it makes a difference). Tuesday, we had an episode where our lights flickered on and off several times in the space of about a minute. Most of the PCs were unaffected, but two went down. One rebooted fine, but the other couldn't make a connection with the AS/400 - it kept producing invalid page faults. I uninstalled and reinstalled CA; uninstalled and reinstalled Win95 (it was an upgrade over WFW 3.11); and finally reformatted the hard drive and installed Win95 and CA from scratch. The CA reinstall wouldn't complete - when the Migration Wizard was called, it produced an invalid page fault. My connection was via TCP/IP, and I could ping the AS/400 and other PCs on the network. Finally, just by sheer luck, I happened to check the system date - it showed April 2, 2098. As nearly as I can guess, the repeated power surges (yes, the PCs aren't protected properly) messed the BIOS system date. I changed it back to today's date, and it now works fine - makes a connection and everything is perfect. My question - was the problem an incompatibility between the system dates on the PC and the AS/400, or is CA not Y2K ready?
