  • Subject: File Transfer and CCSID

A customer is having difficulty with creating result files from
query files. They want to have end users query data to result
files and then FTP those result files to the PC. When they do
this however, all the fields in the files contain the HEX
representation of the data.(a digit '1' is written as 'F1' etc).
All the fields in the file are described as alpha.

The cusomer is using MAPICS on a V3R6 box, and the MAPICS file
uses CCSID 65535. Therefore the reult PF inherits that 65535
CCSID. If I FTP the result file to a V3R7 box, the file is
written to the V3R7 box with CCSID 500. I can then FTP that
file to the PC and the data is represented correctly,

If I FTP that same file from the V3R7 box back to the V3R6 box,
the file again inherits CCSID 500 and can be downloaded
correctly.

So the question is, is there a simple way to enable their
end-users to use query to create result PF's, and then FTP those
PF's to the PC.... even when the queried file has CCSID 65535?

Is there an (east) way to change all files to use a better CCSID

(like 500, or even better 37). Is this advisable to do to MAPICS

(My guess is no).

Is there a way to tell CA/400 FTP to do a CCSID conversion?

Thanks in advance to all who help.

jte

Without Lighthouse Network Security/400, your AS/400 is wide
