Dan, I would recommend always using date type fields. Some day you will want to access the data from a speadsheet or some other desktop tool via ODBC or JDBC. Life is much easier if you have used date type fields, especially if you provide end user query via the desktop tools. Also remember that RPG IV provides date arithmetic. My $.02.
