How true.  Especially among the finance group. :(

We adopted a realllllly boring approach: the AS/400's are named AS01, AS02, etc.
The NT servers are NT01, NT02, etc.

This gave us the flexibility of "named" systems without the eyebrow raising.  I
don't know, sometimes I think that they are so tight, if they passed gas only a
dog could hear the whistle. ;-)
