The compile options are frequently one release behind. On v3r7 we have no way
to specify ALWNULL. In the past it was CVTOPT for date/time support. It is as
if
the assumption is made that no one would mix SQL and "F" spec files. This can
really
be frustrating when you finish a program and can't compile it because the
compile
command does not provide full support. Debug views are also more restrictive.

I sent the following to George Farr at his request on 4/30 detailing some
differences. Never
heard back.

... We are having difficulty using the SQL RPG compiler with V3R7. With V3R7
there
were several enhancements to ILE RPG. These enhancements are not available to
the
SQL RPG compiler. We would like to take advantage of these enhancements but we
share code between SQL and non-SQL RPG programs. Some examples of differences
are, SQL RPG programs do not support long field names, ALWNULL cannot be
specified
on the compile command, fields that are both local and global are not put into
the internal
data structure (the input buffer that follows the SQLCA), and PREFIX over an
external data
structure causes a compiler failure. Some of these are obviously bugs, but
they work in the
regular RPG compiler. This is not the first time this has caught us off guard.
 Date support
put us in this position a few years ago. Please let me know what we need to do
to get these
differences addressed.

I guess I will fill in the reader card.
