When we first got our System/38, we had a "contest" to name the system. The winner was OSCAR (for Oregon Scholarship Commission Automated Records) and we kept that name when we moved to our current AS/400 (although we briefly discussed changing it). We'll probably keep it for the new 620 as well, though I think I'd like to add the roman numeral III after it (for our third system). I like giving systems names and I think the users like it, too. They either call our system OSCAR or refer to it as THE SYSTEM. We also had names for all our twinax terminals but there aren't many of those left. David A.
