IBM's recommended path for a 510 is to a 620. The "S" designation means SERVER model, which means it is optimized for just about everything other than interactive. But with the new models, the impact of running the few interactive users does NOT affect the "server users". They play in totally separate machine spaces. I can't think of where you can find this info. When I was an SE with IBM, it took a lot of digging before I found someone to explain what the differences are between the "server" and "series" models. I am trying to figure out the upgrade path for a 510. I think the next step would be a 600, 620, 640, or 650. How is the S series different than the 600 series? Is the OS enhanced in the S series for file server use? Are their any hardware differences? Is there somewhere on the IBM web site that I can look for this information? I downloaded a couple of PDF files today however, they are just brief overviews of the information I am looking for.
