Unfortunately there are no "I" specs for an output only file. It's an old source of aggravation. For a database file you can change it from output to input with add. This will allow you to define input specs. You will then need a dummy read somewhere in the program or the compiler will complain. C *ON IFEQ *OFF C READ FILEA 50 C ENDIF Printer files are more of a problem. Maybe you can rename everything else in the program instead, or resort to a series of moves and z-adds?
