It seems that in the original post (long since deleted) that the customer would be keeping the current AS/400 as the database server for the new clients. If this is the case, won't an upgrade to the AS/400 still be required (especially if DASD usage is over 90%)? Also, I assume even the best clients cannot process database records as fast as a native AS/400 program can. I think it would be in the customers best interest to to "take care of business first" which would include upgrading hardware and reengineering critical parts of the applications before adding new interfaces to their database. It is hard to understand how a reasonable person with a successful business would throw away stability for the unknown.
