Re: Model AS400e 600 question

Hi,

I have a 5308 Link Protocol Converter floating around here somewhere.
I wouldn't highly recommend it though.  It doesn't support client access
and requires the PC to use terminal emulation software or a byzantine
utility called, I believe, Dial/3x.  Unless they have updated this ALOT it
is not worth the trouble.  If your client really uses dumb ASCII terminals
then it works OK since they are probably used to the limited keyboard mapping.

Depending upon your network configuration you may wish to use one of my
three preferred methods:
1. Windows NT running RAS and SNA Server,
2. Windows NT running RAS with IP forwarding turned on,
3. A TCP/IP Remote Access Server.

Solution 1 is more expensive than the others.  Solutions 2 and 3 require
you to run TCP/IP only and either Client Access or a TN5250 program.  We
currently use Solution 3 with a server called Quickstream from Sonic
Systems (about $900) and a TN5250 program called Reflection (about $100).
If you need to print then you would also need an LPD program (We just
bought one for about $30).

I have no affiliation with the above mentioned companies etc,etc.  I am
just one of those people who sunk a lot of money into various alternatives
that 'almost' worked.
