We restrict programmers access to production programs, so they cannot
change them without going through our change management program. We
also have revoked update rights to production files from the
programmers. Our programmers are the ones that have to fix data
errors in production however, so although normally our programmer use
a group profile of QPGMR, we have given them the ability to change
their group profile, on request, to one that has update privileges to
production data. This profile is severely restricted, so they can't
do much else but run a fix program, etc. to update data. There is a
job that monitors this and sends them a message once an hour reminding
them that they have the production group profile, and reminds them to
set their group profile back to QPGMR.

Subject: Programmer Authorities

Hi!

How do other sites restrict their programming staff? Do you allow
them
*JOBCTL or (shock horror) *ALLOBJ authority? Do they have access to
live
programs and data or is there some form of change control? etc...

All comments welcome,

Tim Shepherd
