Tim Shepherd stated: > How do other sites restrict their programming staff? Do you > allow them *JOBCTL or (shock horror) *ALLOBJ authority? Do they > have access to live programs and data or is there some form of > change control? etc... We have a total of 50 co-workers that work in Computing Services of which approx. 30 are programmers. But only 3.0 programmers on staff are responsible for the AS/400. Two have access to the live data and 1.0 do not. The two that do have access to the live data/programs need that capability because they are responsible for fixing day to day application problems that the client cannot fix. These two programmers have the main responsibility with maintaining 3rd party Financial software, implementing changes, providing new functionality, user training, etc. The way we monitor this is that these two programmers sit on a committee as part of the Finance department project team. A person from Finance is the project leader on the team. Is a unique situation but believe me IT WORKS. I am one of those two programmers. The third programmer (.5) is responsible for just the AS/400 upgrades, backups , performance monitoring, and overall maintanenace on the AS/400 (that all he does with the AS/400). This person does not have access to any live data. The fourth person (.5) is just responsible for our AS/400 security (this is all he does with the AS/400). This person does not have access to any live data. ___________________________________ Catherine Wilbur phone: 1-253-3000 ext. 2745 Senior Application Programmer fax: 1-519-973-7083 Computing Services email: Catherine_Wilbur@unotes2.uwindsor.ca University of Windsor Windsor, Ontario +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to "MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com". | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MAJORDOMO@midrange.com | and specify 'unsubscribe MIDRANGE-L' in the body of your message. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
