Not to limit the number of people who could attend a particular session, but to get a better idea of how many would attend. Perhaps you could set up kiosks thoughout the hotel(s) where the conference is held, and let people sign on and simply enter the course # for the courses they intend to attend the following day. This way you could get a general idea of how many handouts need to be printed. It has the added advantage of letting you know in advance if the course if scheduled for too small or too big a room. In Boston there were at least half a dozen times where I had to stand along the wall, or even outside, and try to hear the presenter, and try to follow along the handout(if there were enough). I would be more than happy to take the extra couple of minutes to fill in a form, or signon to a terminal, if it meant I would be assured of a handout(which I personally use heavily), and a seat. Of course this is not a perfect solution, because not everyone arrives early and stays all week. You would probably need to print 5-10% more handouts for the people who fly in on the day of the sessions they want to attend, or the people who just plain change their mind. -- Lou Schmaus Creative Computer Associates, Inc.
