Exactly Jon,  
All the talk of extra work I feel in the case of DDS is mistaken.
On most Display files(SFL); A. You don't have room for the full date (so
we would have to do something anyway if you have 8,0 numerics), and 
B. Most users may not want to see the whole date alot of time anyway.
