It'll even tell you the record level ID expected by the pgm, so I use this technique all the time when installing new releases (particularly file changes) to root out the dreaded level check msg! As for field usage, I don't know of anything within DB2/400 itself that says "PGM X uses FIELD Y from FILE Z", but there are some vendor tools that provide field where used analysis - we use (but are not affiliated in any way with, except as a customer) Hawkeye.
