Yeah! Sounds kinda like COBOL: 01 fld1. 02 fld1a. 03 fld1a1 pic x(1). 03 fld1a2 pic x(1). 02 fld1b pic x(1). fld1 is length 3, fld1a is length 2. No offense, Hans, but I really like the new D specs because they are closer to COBOL (and others) when it comes to flexibility in describing data. No about those multi-dimensional arrays... PS It's been at least 5 years since I coded any COBOL so my little sample may not be syntactically correct, but I think the idea is sound. PPS It is not my intention, nor my desire, to start a "language war". Matching new information to existing, well-understood patterns is an excellent learning device. -- Brian Johnson Help/Systems, Inc. brian@helpsystems.com ---------- From: Charlie Massoglia Sent: Thu, Jul 17, 1997 1:13 AM Subject: Re: Additional RPGLE Enhancement Request Original Subject: Re: Additional RPGLE Enhancement Requests <...> >I just had another wild and crazy idea: How about if we implicitly >define overlayed subfields with the appropriate length to contain all >overlaying subfields?
