I've just realised that I sent the message below to Brian by private e-mail when I'd intended to post to the list, then received his reply and read it, still thinking it was list traffic. I'm afraid I haven't quite got used to having real SMTP mail at TCO yet. The list serve messages used to look very different from direct e-mail; now they look almost the same.
