I agree with what you're saying about personal replies vs. the list, but
as for quoting the entire reply, PLEASE keep in mind that depending on
the method being used to reply to e-mail, sometimes it's an ALL or
NOTHING choice as to whether you quote the entire original reply.

For example, when I'm in the office using Netscape mail I can quote only
the relevant pieces, as in this reply.
BUT - If I am at home, using CA/400 Basic DOS SDLC dial up to my AS/400,
THEN TELNET to my RS/6000, and using PINE to read my e-mail, then (as
you'll know if you've ever tried to TELNET from 400 to 6000) you can't
really quote only what you want.  You either include the original
message or you don't.  With the TELNET to the 6000 you also need to use
a command key every time you want to position the cursor - one command
key entry for each single position you move it - hence you also don't
tend to correct spelling mistakes as it would take forever just to move
the cursor back to the appropriate space.

Anyway - just an explanation as to why you will occasionally see the
full message quoted with the reply.
