Hmm, my copy of XA (Release 2) isn't written entirely in Synon, I guess I'll
have to get on to Marcam to find out why <grin>.

Seriously, it's only the Customer Order Management and International Financial
Management modules, plus a few bits and pieces of Cross Apps that Marcam won't
ship source for, which are written in Synon. IFM has to be purchased, the
old financial apps are maintained if a customer doesn't want to buy new. COM
replaces Order Entry and Invoicing, and is a free upgrade if you have OE&I
now.

Depending on just what you're modifying in the Synon-based apps, and how you
design your modifications, you may or may not want to buy Synon to do them.
We chose not to for our changes to COM, because we avoided modifying the
Synon-generated RPG directly and were able to isolate the few changes which
we did make to it. I know another company who did buy Synon for changing
COM - they're having an interesting time with it.

As for size changes, COM is much larger than OE&I, both in program size and
data storage. The RISC program library is roughly 2.5 times the size of the
CISC library, depending slightly on the applications installed. MAPICS ships
without observability, so you have to specifically order RISC versions of all
installation and fix tapes.
