VisualAge RPG is just the wrapper (outer layer) and you could use it to interact with your data. What I wrote above is merely an integrated solution taking into account the strengths and weaknesses of the potential design. I prefer using local storage for temporary stuff and the AS/400 for long-range data storage. Then, after the above is implemented, one can fine-tune the data needs on the AS/400 side. -Bob- BTW, you could also use VisualAge Cobol if your programs are written in that language. You could also use something like Visualizer under OS/2 and soon Windows NT to handle the front-end data collection and have the AS/400 data file look like a local database on the PC side ... if you use DDCS/DB2, you get referential integrity and other nice things one cannot have with just PC support. -- 1 Bob Angell, Principal - Sys.
