If he wants to write it, I say go for it. That is how you build a better mousetrap. Sometimes you learn on these things which save on other things. And would this project be that hard to do? We have written some http servers and they work a lot more efficient with no security holes. We fire them up and the CPU is less than .01. When we fire up apache, the CPU goes to over 30% until it settles down. Now, the customer doesn't have to have a big Iseries to do what they want. They can use a little one. And that is the sort of attitude INMO that gives honest consultants a bad name. I would immediately fire the a** of any consultant I found milking me like that!! If they found me an alternative economic solution to my problem, I'd soon find other work for them. If the alternative doesn't work or has other limitations that is a different story. Besides - have you not heard of commission?
