I'm looking into using a RETEXCPD to find out the details (i.e., the error
code) when a write involving a datalink field throws a CPF504B.

1. Is that going to get me the information I need? By the path of least
resistance?

2. Does anybody know what this "exception data retention option" is, that
the MI manual refers to in the RETEXCPD pages?
