The original poster (Kaare) never told us WHY he had a "requirement" that the file be in memory before his program would run (maybe he is trying to convince a recalcitrant customer that the reason the program is slow is I/O), but if Kaare's program has to run at 11:30 and it takes 5 minutes to bring in the file, why not simply start the program at 11:25 instead? Maybe he thinks that it is faster to load the file in one go rather than record by record. I think the presumption is that the "bring" can be done many pages at a time. Paul, any light on this?
