But doesn't Automatic Performance Adjustment only dink with Shared
Pools? Leaving any user defined pools alone?

>From the help text on QPFRADJ:

If system value QPFRADJ is set to '3,'the following performance
    values are changed:

o Machine pool size (QMCHPOOL system value)

o Base pool activity level (QBASACTLVL system value) if the
        controlling subsystem is QSYS/QBASE, QSYS/QCTL, QGPL/QBASE, or
        QGPL/QCTL

o Pool size and activity level for shared pool *SPOOL

o Pool size and activity level for shared pool *INTERACT

o Pool size and activity level for shared pools *SHRPOOL1-10

thanks Paul (and apology to Mark), but the fly in the ointment seems
to be the Automatic Performance Adjustment that may move pages
around. Isn't the adjustment normally turned on (default)?
