Actually, it spends more time shut down than running. Especially when
it's in system password bypass, since that allows us to stretch several
months out of the bypass period. Both episodes happened, if I remember
right, immediately after power failures during extended shutdown
periods; I *think* it has been through shutdown periods of over a month
without losing it, and I know it's been through power failures without
losing it.
After the first episode, I found and changed the control panel battery
(on that model, it consists of three ordinary AA cells); that didn't
stop the second episode.
I've since set up a schedule that powers it up once a week whether it's
in use or not. If that isn't it, however, I'd rather not find out the
hard way.
