Can't say anything about that case; but around '71-'72, we upgraded a 2311 disk subsystem for a 1401 from 2.5MB to 5MB (IIRC). The CE removed a stop-screw that had prevented the disk arm from fully traversing the platters. Voila! Doubled capacity!
