I've been thinking about APIs into the dtaara object and I have the
following question. Why not use QRGXIOU? It may not be an API by definition,
but the interface is defined in any RPG program and the interface in
unlikely to change since that would break any program that used IN and OUT.
In case you are wondering, QRGXIOU is the program that handles RPG IO to a
data area. Look at the IRP of any RPG compile that uses IN and OUT for the
interface definition.

Walden,

I am trying to understand ibm's position on the data area, why full
functionality is not provided.

Rpg ile does not allow use of IN or OUT in a sub procedure.
Ile C does not provide the ability to chg a numeric data area.
no chgdtaara api ( provide this and language restrictions go away )
no api to rtv the dtaara attributes?

on the other hand, *ddm access to a remote data area was provided ( anyone
know what release this happened in? )

Steve
