Thanks for your input. Can you please let me know how you are keeping the temps from hitting payroll. Also, you DNC setup looks great. We have many non-computerized machines right now, but that looks like a great way to get the data we need in the future.

We've done something similar - but for different purposes.
We have Temps in our emp master to capture their job time, but they don't
hit payroll. We have a cost associated with them; an avg based upon the job
category, this cost is used for job costing.
You could do something similar, but with out any cost associated with the
emp. Don't forget to make them multi-machine. I would have to find out how
we keep them out of payroll - if you're interested.
As an alternative, you may want to look into machine monitoring tools.
If you're running DNC, you might be half way there!

There are numerous benefits of it aside from what you're looking for;
downtime reporting, web based access, accurate piece counting, analysis,
etc.

Has anyone successfully set up fake employees to capture run time with no
costs associated. Many times our product can run unattended and at the end
of 1st shift we don't want to have one 2nd shift guy clock on to 20 or so
jobs.
We want to be able to capture the time for the next time we run the job (or
similar jobs) when it may not be able to guaranty the availiblity of the 2nd
shift.
Back in June 2002 on the list there was some talk about a employee type M
for machine, but I couldn't find anything in the manuals or E:Info about it.
Any suggestions of what people have done would be helpful. Thanks.
