My thought is you almost need code files here really, not discrete
domains, but also you have it sounds like code/sub-code file issues you
would want to consider but that is Rel 7 only. (So if one selection is
made, the second selection only shows the options available to that first
selection.)

Unless I'm missing it, this is really a configuration engine you need or
KBC type of function. Code/Sub-code won't give you that either.

Subject: Re: [MAPICS-L] R6 Integrator question

maybe you can do something like this:

1. Create a Physical file to be used as "Item Extension Description"
with
the following fields:
Item, Motor, Horsepower, GearRatio, BoreSize, etc...

2. Use Integrator to define the file as a Secondary file and associate
it
to the Item object (if you are using PDM+) or Item Revision (if you are
using EPDM)

3. Define each of the fields as a Discrete Domain, then you can have:

Field Value Alias
MOTOR GMTR GEAR MOTOR
MOTOR GMT2 GEAR MOTOR #2
HORSEPOWER .25HP .25 HORSE POWER
HORSEPOWER .50HP .50 HORSE POWER
HORSEPOWER .75HP .75 HORSE POWER

4. Add the fields (attributes) in the Item or Item revision card,
then
the user can select the value using the "drop down"

5. Develop a user Exit that will concatenate all the fields into the
Item
Description

[MAPICS-L] R6 Integrator question

We are at Release 6. I need to be able to build a part description
based on the attributes of the part, using a series of drop down
selection boxes. For example, from drop down box 1 "gear motor" is
selected, then drop down box 2 displays for a selection of applicable
horsepowers, then drop down box 3 displays for a selection of applicable
gear ratios, then drop down box 4 displays for a selection of applicable
bore sizes. From these selections, I would generate a part description
of "GMTR,.25HP,8.2:1,20MM" to accurately describe this part - a .25
horsepower gear motor with a 8.2:1 gear ratio and a 20mm bore.

Is there a way to do this within Integrator? If so, how might I best
accomplish this? My knowledge of Integrator is somewhat limited, so the
more detail you can provide, the better.

Thanks...
