When engineering was looking at SmarTeam my biggest concern was that their
vaulting would mean the end to publishing documents using Browser (we use
a user action, not attachment to launch a PDF) however we overcame this
issue by creating a SmarTeam script that publishes the document to a
network share whenever it is released by engineering. Perhaps the Docware
solution you liked could do the same?
There is a bit of effort keeping things synchronized if documents get
renamed.

Also, I think any system you implement will require a fair amount of time
to manage.

What will cut down on management is a system that creates the forms and
stores them automatically eliminating the need for scanning & indexing.
Those system typically support publishing (user exit, script, etc) to
folders that can be accessed by Browser.

We spend a fair amount of time scanning - mostly shop routers, but we
rarely index anything because the data is already in MAPICS.

We are currently using the MEDIA FILES (File Attachment in Browser)
Function and this works well.
For us, this takes almost a full time person to do the scanning of
documents, merging, and linking them in
Browser. And everyone just loves the availability of the documents in
browser. What started the investigation into a Document Management
system, Was A) speed up the sign-off of routers for Manufacturing and b)
have a less manual system. We been looking at DocWare , the only problem
is that we will no longer be able to use the Media file
Function in browser. And this is unacceptable to the sales group.
Our quest continues.

Wes,

I also am interested in this answer. I've seen several solutions, but
the integration is left up to the company, and there are numerous ways
to do
it, depending on what you want to integrate! I currently have had one
running since 1992 for invoices and such, but it's not integrated beyond
the Windows desktop, or green screen as a menu option. We are
investigating using the attachments file in Browser (that looks
promising), but again, I can only see that we have to do the loading of
the links and such ourselves.

Hello Group.
We are in the process of looking at Document Management systems.
Does anyone have a recommendation of one that ties into XA nicely.
We mainly want to be able to control the various pieces of paper in
electronic format associated with Customer Orders , Purchasing,
signing-off of routers, etc.
The ones we look at so far do not and we want something that will
utilize our investment into XA.
Thanks
