I tend to agree with Lloyd's response. I don't do much report design
(the acctg users do that) but I need to keep the database up and
running. I found the whole FRX thing very fragile.

For example:
1. Remote users simply cannot use it. Way too slow. With Netilla
(Terminal server) its ok.
2. Indexes frequently get corrupted. have to delete and rebuild G32
files regularly.
3. Odd errors, esp if someone tries to access when delta load is
running.
4. Anytime I add a new "designer" user, I have to re-enter all the
license keys.
5. etc... etc ...etc

Yes we are using, in baby steps, FRx here.

Some Big Pros are the ability to dump output right into excel, comes
with rudimentary "Web Site" to publish reports.

Some Cons would be zero canned report formats, the ability to update
data in the warehouse is kind of manual, what I mean is, I can
automatically schedule updates to run as frequently as I want to, but
right now I have updates running at 12:00am and 12:00pm. 5% of the time
the 12:00pm one will not process because someone is in IFM somewhere, GL
processing gets suspended, I get a call while on vacation to fix it.
Also, just getting Scheduling to work initially is bit of a task.

Other than that I think that it is great! Very professional output!

FRx is a very good product. Very Excel-like (it's a Microsoft product).

Marc,

I was impressed with FRx, and have a request in to acquire it for our
company. Unfortunately, I haven't received budget yet, but it sure
looked
good at the conference!

AM [MAPICS-L] Financial Reporting

Are there any good tools, with minimal configuration requirements, that
can be used for financial reporting out of Mapics? We are currently
running AM and most of our reporting is done EIE (Everything in Excel)
or with AS/400 query and reports.

Before we head down the path of putting this into our data warehouse we
are looking for some relatively straight forward commercial packages.

The most immediate need is having a tool that will allow us to quickly
generate income statements that we can do period (Year over Year, Month
over Month, same period last year vs this year) style comparison. I
anticipate we would need to map GL accounts but I am hoping there is
some canned reporting.

Thanks in advance,
