Hello, I have a rather extensive experience in this field. One trick I heard was create (sometimes using MUI screen design is enough) the same screen in the "upper left corner" with just the right size for the entries. If you set up this design to be user specific and use this user on the handhelds you may be out of the woods already. Other options are writing your own entry (on TRDATA if you have PM&C is the easiest) If you use a wireless terminal as plain off-line filling, there is no gain between a wireless terminal type and a barcode pen with a memory which you "empty" by putting it in an "inkpot". Since those devices are a lot cheaper you need a good reason to go for a wireless terminal. It can be the on-line (or on regular interval) transaction processing, or it can be another on-line function (like consulting inventory, open orders, ...). But if you have NO online function in mind (now or in the near future) you may want to rethink your handheld type Kind regards, Kris ----- Original Message ----- From: <btrisko@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <mapics-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx>; <mapics-l@xxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Tuesday, June 27, 2006 8:23 PM Subject: [MAPICS-L] Wireless handheld devices used for Inventory transactions
We are beginning to use wireless handheld devices (Symbol brand) for data collection. The screens are 16 rows by 20 characters wide. It doesn't allow the full green screen to be displayed in Inventory transactions - (option 1 on menu AMIM30). We are considering writing a program to create an offline file for using these devices. Is anyone else using these or similar devices? And if so, how are you handling the screen size for Mapics applications? Thanks, Brenda Trisko iSeries Systems Programmer/Analyst Douglas Machine Inc.
