We currently run Release 5.5 on a 720. We are in the process of preparing to upgrade to Release 7.x, but it will be on a new i520 Enterprise platform. My impression is that a Model 720 would be an adequate platform for Release 6, but not for Release 7. My understanding is also that System-Link (XML) and Net-Link (HTML) are recommended to run on an auxiliary server or servers, not the iSeries platform. Since you're not currently using either of those, they're not an issue. The latest release of Power-Link (Java) is now running in Embedded Mode, meaning it's running on the client workstation, not on the server. Are you running this version? However, even with the latest version the Java startup on the server does have a hefty CPU spike and opening the data paths on first use would cause the initial sessions to take a while. Infor does have some performance monitoring/improvement resources available to assist you in finding out what's going on and tuning it. But I suspect your 720 platform performance with Release 7 is the fundamental issue. Not sure that can be remedied without upgrading to a better platform, which is what we are planning to do. We did a stress test last Friday and brought things to a halt. I had 26 users in PowerLink, not using System-Link or Net-Link, around 25 other users in green screen and around 50 users using Release 6. Our PowerLink sessions are taking almost 2 minutes to start-up. Any one seeing similar response times?
