Funny you bring this up as we're in the process of doing this right now 
for FTP.
We use MAPICS EC and our VAN is dropping support for bisync and SDLC so 
we're switching to FTP using digital certificates.
It's so much easier to troubleshoot issues if everything runs on the 
iSeries instead of sending the data to other servers.
