Wayne

What you need to find is a data collection device that will meet your needs
for T&A and for future needs. Many devices on the market today allow you to
use them as TE devices, or CE. What I would suggest is that you look for a
device that meets your screen size needs. Devices from the major hardware
providers have different screen sizes and may restrict you to limitation
depending upon which software solution you use.

Many of our clients that we have use the data collection devices for both
T&A and production reporting, which requires larger screens, alpha/numeric
keypads, and scanning devices. So make sure you do you due diligence on the
hardware vendor that you choose. Intermec, Symbol, LXE are a few of the main
one that would work.

The same goes for the software that you are looking at. Most packages can
support CE, TE, and Telnet solutions. Look at which one fits your needs
today and long term.

Subject: Data Collection Terminals

Hello all,

We are currently running Mapics XA R6 and have the PMC application
installed, collecting inventory, time and attendance and job off
transactions. We have two TX2001 Inducomp Data Collection Terminals
(from early 1900 I believe) that function as time clocks to gather time
and attendance transactions only. The other transactions are collected
on PC's throughout the shop using a custom software program written by a
consultant. We are in the process of installing and testing the iTera
Echo2 High Availability Software solution and would like to eliminate
these TX2001 terminals as they are not "IP" capable. The TX2001
terminals run HAL software and were interfaced to the PMC application by
the same consultant. What we would really like to do is replace the
TX2001 with an "IP" capable time clock that can connect to an Ethernet
network and pass the "fast clocking" time and attendance transactions
directly to the PMC application. Now, after all that is said, does
anyone use any type of devices connected to an Ethernet network that
would be able to perform the "TA" transactions required by the Mapics
PMC application?

Thanks in advance.
