Keith, we have had PERMS for 10 years. Our story is nearly identical to
Dale's. Midrange Software's support is not as quick and accurate as I
receive from many other vendors. For instance with PERMS we know that we
will have archival problems at each year end. It never fails and for the
last two years we don't bother involving them in the fix. We simply patch
things up on our own. We are accustomed to it and have lowered our
expectations of them. On normal day to day operations PERMS is stable. So
like Dale we don't have many recent support stories to share. Looking
ahead, I am hesitant to try Millenium, their gui version of PERMS. I wasn't
happy with the last price I was quoted a few years ago nor are my users
interested. I also agree with Dale's remark about the departure of Dave
McIntyre. When I had Dave work on a problem I got a reliable fix.

Keith - Are you considering a solution from Midrange?

We have a fairly long relationship with Midrange although we don't rely
on them for much support any longer because we are on an old-stable
version of green screen PERMS. I can't remember the last time we
actually needed tech support on PERMS. Perhaps when we put up MAPICS
R6???

When we were actively implementing their HR solution a number of years
back and used their tech support more frequently we would probably rank
them about a 6 on a scale from 1-10. This is based on a relative ranking
of support services that we receive from a number of other solution
providers. It isn't that they offer consistently poor support; their
support clearly just wasn't par with other providers that we did
business with. This may not be true today.

I have been told by several people that they feel that after Dave
McIntyre left the business a few years back the company isn't as
customer responsive as they once were. I can't personally confirm or
deny that since we have such a limited need for support today (basically
none) so you will need to develop your own opinion on that. There was
some past "chat" on the midrange list regarding Midrange Software; some
of it positive, and some not so positive.

Do any other members of this list have experiences similar or different
than mine that they can share with Keith?

Dale.

Dale,

Is your experience with Midrange Software personal or from a reliable
source? What are the details?
