Bud, That's a complicated one. In my case, we do regular upgrades to my hardware, and I was continually paying major cash for licensing upgrades on all my upgrades. I was on tier-based pricing. In my case, I saved a bunch over several upgrades by converting to user-based from tier-based. However, interestingly enough, my last upgrade was from a 9406-720 to a 9406-270, which was 4 times more powerful, but oddly enough dropped me from a P20 to a P10. No price savings on that one for me for MAPICS, but I did save on my IBM licensing. I would think you would save a chunk on licensing with your proposed move at this time, but you may end up paying more than you would save in the future. You have to look long term on this one. ILF is "Initial License Fee" and you don't have to worry about that if you already own the applications. It's for when you initally purchase a new app. And it doesn't surprise me that you are getting a "fuzzy answer" - your affiliate won't make any money lowering your annuals fees. In my particular case, my sales rep worked hard with me to save me money on deals in MAPICS. He figured good will would pay off in the future, and it did (for a while), but that affiliate doesn't exist anymore. I never got information on ALFs from MAPICS, always from my affiliate. Hope this helps! We were wondering if the ALF could be lowered by going tier-based with a P10 machine. Does anyone have information on the formula that is used to calculate the ALF? Also, what is ILF? I'm posting this here because the affiliate is being very vague when responding to our inquiry and MAPICS has not responded at all. This leads me to believe it may be a good way to go. The applications we are using are CAS, AR, COM, IM, PDM, PUR, KBC and Browser at Release 6. _______________________________________________ This is the MAPICS ERP System Discussion (MAPICS-L) mailing list To post a message email: MAPICS-L@xxxxxxxxxxxx To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/mailman/listinfo/mapics-l or email: MAPICS-L-request@xxxxxxxxxxxx Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http://archive.midrange.com/mapics-l.
