Multiple warehouses

We have 2 plants that are about 2 miles apart and are stocked from the same
outside warehouse.  There are common materials between the plants that are
sometimes swapped when one plant is running low.  Should I have each plant
setup as a separate warehouse?  What are the pros and cons?
