I have been working with ACOM's EZPrint for 1-1/2 yrs. It does not matter if
you have modified
the Mapics forms or not. The GUI portion of the software allows you to
transfer an actual spool
file from the AS/400 to your PC and use the designer tool to create your form
overlay around the spool. We have used ACOM EZPrint to create our own forms
overlays for invoices, acknowledgements, purchase orders, AR Statements and
more. We are now printing most of our special forms documents
on laser printers. You will love it.

P.S. We do not use EZPrint for A/P or Payroll checks.

What kind of work was involved to cut over to the laser forms using the Acom
package? We have heavily modified some MAPICS forms (e.g. the fields on
PO's have been moved around quite a bit to make thinks fit). Our director
thinks this may problematic.

After reading about the packages, however, I am led to believe that the
strengths of the packages is that making forms changes is easy using a PC
GUI tool.

Nobody asked to laser print forms and I am trying to sell it to management.
If it is going to problematic to go from our modified MAPICS forms to laser
printing, I don't think my boss wants something like this on his plate right
now.

Thanks in advance for any input.

We currently use the Acom Ezprint/400 for all forms and checks. It cost
roughly $10k, depending on the modules you wish to use. One neat thing I
found, is that you can change the form depending on content of the spool
file. An example is when a duplicate invoice is printed, a "duplicate"
blurb is print on the invoice.

We determined that we would save about $9k in a year just in paper, this
don't include the additional time of bursting and collating the form.

Good luck in your search.

Laser printing A/P checks

Looking to replace a Decision Data 6550 line printer with a laser printer
for printing A/P checks. Laser printing was my suggestion and Accounting
is
open to the idea but would like some costs. Presently print about 200
two-part AP checks a week on preprinted forms.

Do we have to buy a forms package to accomplish this? We presently hand
stamp the checks. What would be the ballpark price for a bare bones forms
package?

On the other hand, we also line print about 200 two-part invoices a day,
three-part BOL's on preprinted forms, and PO's on preprinted cut sheets
for
a laser printer, so perhaps we should buy a package to do it all.

Any recommendations?
